Newsletter: September 2014

September is typically one of those months of change. Kids going back to school, shredding off the summer procrastination and getting back into training mode. Riding this wave, the club also has a couple new and exciting anouncements. Take a moment to read this newsletter and I'll see you on the matts and remember...as navy seals often say “The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat.”
Patches? We don't need no stinkin' patches!
...Actually, yes you do! Beaches BJJ patches are now for sale! $20 gets you an official patch to be lovingly sewn on to the back of you gi. Great for representing the club at tournaments or just looking super cool at the dojo!

Also... Beaches BJJ rashguards.
How can this be!? Patches AND rashguards!? You had better believe it! Beaches BJJ logo on the front and Prof Shah in a styling afro on the back. Place your order (S,M,L,XL) with Prof Greg. $25 when they arrive in October.
Seminar with Miyuu Yamamoto
September 14th at 8:30.
There is not much I can say about Miyuu that has not already been said. A quick google or youtube search will bring up her long list of accomplishments, included 3 world championships! As a martial artist it is always a pleasure to learn technique and never have to question if it is "right" or if there is a more efficient method. Training with Miyuu allows the BJJ student to quickly learn absolutely solid fundamental wrestling takedowns. If you feel uncomfortable starting matches in the standing position, these seminars are not to be missed!
Technique of the month:
Scissor Sweep
Step 01:
With your guard closed, reach in for a deep collar grab with one hand and a sleeve grip with the other.
Step 02:
Open your guard and get into sweep position. Note, your shin on your upper leg should be digging deeply into your opponent's hip bone. It is very important to have this “bone on bone” contact.
Step 03:
Push HARD on your opponents hip bone while simultaneously straitening both legs .Do not forget to engage your upper body by pulling your opponent to the ground.
Step 04:
Complete the sweep by moving into mount and retaining your grips.
Shout Outs
A shout out to Kenobi and his broken finger! If you play this game long enough, eventually something will break. Heal up and keep your spirits high!
